STONE PAVERS & FLAT ROCK
HARDSCAPES
Hardscapes are any hard-surfaced feature of your landscape such as paved or flat rock patios, driveways, walkways, courtyards, fireplaces and retaining walls. Although hardscapes cost more than softscapes (i.e. trees, plants and shrubs), it is money well spent. Hardscapes are not only aesthetically pleasing, but they increase the value of your property.
Paving and flat rock are two of the most popular hardscape projects being done today. We are seeing more and more landscapes featuring paved courtyards, patios, driveways, walkways, pool surrounds and pathways. There are many materials to be considered to provide durability and stability in addition to attractiveness. There is a large range of eye-catching pavers available on the market from brick to concrete to natural stone pavers. In addition to their appealing look, pavers are far more durable than concrete slabs. They don’t crack, last a long time and are practically maintenance free. One reason retaining walls are becoming more popular is that they give the property owner the ability to turn unused sloping land into an attractive garden bed. An attractive hardscape properly built is another way to make your yard stand out from the others while increasing the value of your property.
Patios and decks are a great way to increase the living space of your home and allow more outdoor entertaining. Even the smallest of areas can be turned into a deck or a patio. Patio flooring can be made from natural stone pavers, wood decking or stamped concrete. Decks are generally made from treated timber that is water resistant and durable and can withstand the effects of wet weather. Timber is also visually attractive and gives a home a rustic edge. Other materials currently used for decking are polyethyiene and aluminum.
Add an outdoor fireplace with a barbeque to your patio or deck, and you’ll be spending many a summer night enjoying the out of doors. Entertaining is so much easier and convenient when you can cook and serve outdoors. And with an outdoor fireplace, you can also enjoy your outdoor area in the colder months.
